High Capacity, Low-Headroom Hydraulic Operated Clamshell Grab

INTRODUCTION

The ECI-Indusign hydraulic clamshell is a product from one of the world's leading manufacturers of bulk handling equipment. Advances in engineering and metallurgy along with years of manufactureing experience and actual contact with bulk handling solutions back this product. Properly operated and maintained, the clamshell should give years of trouble free operation.

GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

This hydraulic clamshell grab is called a 'low-headroom' clamshell because the hydraulic cylinders are mounted horizontally. In many cases this type of clamshell is the only alternative in narrow places like a ships' hold. The clamshell's low total height dispenses with the need for additional headroom needed with mechanical and other clamshells. Careful design with the use of allosy steel gives minimum weight and maximum lifting capacity. Good stability is achieved by a low center of gravity.

High power - no chain or rope needed - plus an effective shell design gives ECI-Indusign clamshell maximum performance and speed.

One of the most important issues during the design process of this series of 'high volume' clamshells was the stiffness of the shells. Exceptional torsional stiffness results in better cutting capabilities, less wear,... The advantages of this series of clamshells are:

  • the cost saving in the construction of cranes is considerable and at many existing sites a low headroom clamshell is the only alternative.
  • the basic upper part of the clamshell can be equipped with various sizes of shells
  • for bulk handling or claws for handling logs or similar products
  • we do have a standard range of clamshells. However, if your application calls for a design which is not covered by our standard range, we will develop a solution for your situation
  • best capacity/deadweight ratio.
